Welcome To The Peak District Tourist Guide Video

The Peak District is a mixture of open rugged moorland to the north with more rural green hills and dales in the south and its flavour is more industrial north than genteel Olde Englande. Bakewell is an attractive town in the heart of the National Park, as are the spa town of Buxton and Ashley, the southern gateway to the area. This is also Robin Hood country and Nottingham, once known best for its big bad sheriff, is a lively modern city. The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is near Mansfield.

The Peak District is located right at the heart of England, the stunning and diverse scenery of the Peak District and Derbyshire. It is a paradise for walking and family cycling holidays, mountain biking and adventure sports such as caving, rock climbing, hang gliding and paragliding. And there's plenty to do if you've got a more relaxed approach to nature and the great outdoors, whether you're following in the footsteps of the stars on the film tourism trail or sampling the area's renowned food, drink and local produce!

The peak district was the first to be designated a national park in England. It encompasses two distinct landscapes. The Dark Peaks of the north which feature gritstone crags and the moorlands of Kinder Scout and the White Peaks of the south which has a gentler limestone landscape with pretty valleys winding through the countryside.
